Flea Market Item 26-285

Measurements- wood 17cm long, stamp 14.5cm long x 3cm wide. 

We found this vintage hand-carved hand operated printing block at a flea market in the south of France earlier this year. 

It is mounted on a hardwood base. It depicts a whimsical woodland scene in a simple, illustrative style. 

It features a small rabbit or hare crouching on the left, stylised flowers and grasses, trees with rounded canopies and curving vines and foliage extending across the length of the design.

The scene has a distinctly Scandinavian or mid-century children’s book aesthetic. It is decorative rather than highly detailed, suggesting it was intended to produce a bold printed border.
