These exquisite French lace sleeve protectors date from around 1900–1930 and reflect a time when elegance extended even to the most practical aspects of daily life.
Fashioned from fine cotton tulle and beautifully detailed Leavers lace with delicate floral motifs, they were worn over the forearms to protect the sleeves of cherished blouses while sewing, reading or carrying out light household tasks. Tied at the upper arm and wrist, they combined practicality with refinement, preserving fine clothing without sacrificing style.
Today they offer a rare glimpse into the thoughtful rituals of the Belle Époque and stand as beautiful examples of French lace craftsmanship.
This pair appears to be in remarkably good condition considering its age:
• Both sleeves remain together as a pair, which is unusual.
• The lace is crisp and well preserved.
• The floral motifs retain excellent definition.
• The original ties are intact.
• There is only light age toning and a few minor marks, consistent with careful storage over many decades.
