These antique spools almost certainly originated from a French mercerie (haberdashery) or dressmaker’s workbox. 

They all date from the late 1800’s, and range from 3-4cm in height, and 3cm wide. 

They represent the golden age of French thread manufacturing, when companies such as Dollfus-Mieg (DMC) in Alsace and Thiriez in Lille supplied professional dressmakers, embroiderers and households throughout Europe and beyond. 

The finely turned wooden reels, elegant lithographed labels and quality cotton thread reflect an era when even everyday sewing supplies were beautifully made.
