These are attractive embroidered cotton or cotton-linen handkerchiefs, that we found in France. We estimate them to be mid-20th century, most likely 1940s–1960s.
The handkerchiefs feature:
• Fine machine-hemmed edges on cotton-linen ground fabric.
• Floral embroidery worked in brightly coloured cotton thread.
• Simple corner decoration, leaving most of the handkerchief plain.
The blue flowers on the upper handkerchief resemble campanula (bellflowers), while the other example depicts a small bouquet of stylised pink flowers tied with a yellow ribbon.
