During our recent visit to France we kept coming across these charming antique pieces of pressed glass tableware, most likely dating from the late Victorian to early Art Deco period (c. 1890–1930).

We think they’d make a wonderful pincushion!!

They are known as “saleron double”, a double open salt cellar, dating to the Belle Époque period. These small table accessories often accompanied matching pressed-glass cruets, mustard pots, and condiment sets.

Features include:

 Two small bowls joined together.

 A central carrying handle.

 Pressed floral and geometric decoration.

Clear moulded glass rather than cut crystal.

These double salts were designed to sit on the dining table and hold:

Salt in one compartment and pepper or spices in the other.

Or simply provide salt for two diners seated opposite one another.

It is 12cm long, 6cm wide and 7cm high.
