This is a lovely example of a mid-20th century tailor’s or dressmaker’s tape measure in its original leather pouch which is 7x5cm.

The green tape is a flexible cloth measuring tape, printed in centimetres. The word “BONUX” is visible on the tape. Bonux was a well-known French laundry detergent brand introduced in the 1950s, famous for promotional gifts included with its products.

The tape measure was likely:

A promotional premium given away with Bonux detergent.

Intended for household sewing, dressmaking, and knitting.

Stored in the small leather pouch to keep it clean and prevent tangling.

The style strongly suggests:

 1950s–1970s

 Most likely 1960s

The bright green plastic-coated tape and snap-fastened pouch are typical of that era. Earlier tape measures (pre-1940) were usually linen tapes in brass or leather cases, while later examples often used plastic retractable housings.
