Item 26-226

This is a charming doll’s dress we found in the south of France, probably made for a bisque-head or composition doll rather than a modern toy.

Based on the construction and materials, we estimate it would date it to approximately 1900–1930. 

Features supporting this date include:

• Fine pink-and-white striped cotton fabric.

• Handmade insertion of cotton lace trim at the collar, bodice, cuffs, and hem.

• Full gathered skirt attached to a yoke bodice.

• Long sleeves with gathered cuffs.

• Small scale construction typical of French doll clothing from the early 20th century.

It measures 21cm from neck to hem, and 27cm from wrist to wrist.
