This pair measures 9cm in length. They are small, high-quality embroidery or sewing scissor whose appeal lies in its elegant simplicity and fine proportions.

This style became very common in quality embroidery and needlework scissors around the turn of the twentieth century.

They most likely were made in either:

 France (Nogent or Thiers)

 Germany (Solingen)

The proportions are very reminiscent of the practical embroidery scissors sold through French merceries during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

These were almost certainly intended for:

 Embroidery.

 Whitework.

 Lace making.

 Thread clipping.

 Fine sewing.

The extremely sharp, narrow points are designed to get close to stitches without damaging surrounding fabric.

This example is in relatively good condition:

 Tips intact.

 Blades appear straight.

Dark patina but little obvious corrosion.

 Rivet appears original.

 No visible repairs.

Collectors often appreciate this untouched condition.

DATE

c. 1890–1930, most likely 1900–1920.

The clues are:

 Fine, needle-like points.

Narrow blades designed for precision work.

 Simple forged construction.

Riveted pivot rather than an adjustable screw.

Smooth, streamlined handles without Victorian ornament.

 Symmetrical, machine-finished appearance.
