Scissors such as these were often supplied in sewing companions, workboxes, and embroidery sets during the late Victorian era.
Key indicators that suggest this include:
• Small size (approximately 7 cm long).
• Fine, pointed blades.
• Forged steel construction.
• Decorative turned collars above the finger rings.
• Riveted pivot rather than a tension screw.
• Traditional Victorian proportions.
The turned collar decoration is a feature frequently seen on English sewing scissors from Sheffield during the late nineteenth century.
These were probably used for:
• Embroidery.
• Needlework.
• Thread clipping.
• Fine sewing.
The long narrow blades suggest precision work rather than general household cutting.
The surface corrosion is fairly typical for antique sewing tools and does not significantly detract from their historical interest.
DATE-
