This style was common in sewing baskets, travelling workboxes, and ladies’ needlework sets during the late Victorian and Edwardian periods.
They most likely originated in either
• Sheffield, England
• Possibly Nogent, France.
The turned decorative collars on the handles are particularly reminiscent of many Sheffield-made sewing scissors from the late nineteenth century.
These would have been used for:
• Sewing and dressmaking.
• Embroidery.
• General textile work.
• Household needlework.
The blades are sturdier than fine lace-making scissors but more refined than general household scissors.
This pair appears to be:
• Well forged.
• Properly fitted with a tension-adjusting screw.
• Made as a quality domestic sewing tool rather than a novelty or souvenir piece
