The design of these scissors has a clear Art Nouveau transitioning into Art Deco influence:
• Geometric openwork decoration.
• Symmetrical pierced handles.
• Architectural lines rather than the flowing organic curves of late Victorian scissors.
• Pressed and stamped steel construction typical of early 20th-century manufacture.
The pierced geometric decoration was extremely popular on German export sewing scissors in the first quarter of the twentieth century. Many were sold internationally through sewing shops and department stores.
These are small sewing or embroidery scissors, designed for:
• Thread clipping
• Embroidery
• Needlework
• Fine sewing tasks
At approximately 9 cm in length, they would have fit comfortably into a workbox or sewing companion.
