Item 26-003 Scissor Event

These are American-made sewing or embroidery scissors, likely produced between the 1920s and 1950s. The simple “STEEL USA” marking was commonly used on mid-market American sewing accessories sold through department stores, sewing supply houses, and mail-order catalogues.

The beaded decoration around the handles is typical of the interwar and post-war period. By the 1960s most American sewing scissors had moved toward plastic-handled or more utilitarian forms.

At approximately 10cm long, these were likely sold as:

• Needlework scissors

• Household sewing scissors

• Travel sewing kit scissors
