Item 26-001 Scissor Event

The stamp on the shank reads “VÉRITABLE ACIER” (“genuine steel” in French), a marking commonly found on French sewing, embroidery and lingerie scissors from the period. The elegant openwork handles with small decorative scrolls are also very characteristic of French haberdashery tools.

The size (approximately 9.5cm long) and fine pointed blades suggest they were intended for:

• Embroidery work

• Lace making

• Fine sewing

• Thread snipping
