Found during visit to beautiful Bruges. 

This oval shaped piece is in excellent condition. 

It is handmade, with a natural linen thread. 

Measures 65 x 40cm 

Lace has been commercially available since the 16th century in Belgium. 

There are 4 predominant varieties from different regions: 

Brussels specialised in pillow-lace with cut thread.

Antwerp was renowned for its pillow-lace with continuing thread.

Bruges became famous for its "Binche lace" especially the "point de fée" (fairy lace). 

East Flanders the lace production developed as a needle technique, which was mostly used for very fine cloth and became known as "Brussels lace".
