This is a beautiful example of a very delicate embroidered net lace flounce, probably dating from the late Victorian to Edwardian period (roughly 1890–1915). It combines several techniques and sits stylistically between fine dress embroidery and lace-making.

This type of textile was often used for:

• lingerie and tea gowns,

• sleeve flounces,

• fichus and collars,

• bridal wear,

• and luxury infant clothing.
