A charming collection of vintage French sewing notions in an old friand tin that we think would make a perfect pincushion!
Nestled inside are gorgeous little pieces of French mercerie history that we have found during our adventures in the French markets.
Inside are two original reels of fine mercerised thread in soft blush pink and pale primrose, a skein of lustrous ivory thread with its original Crawfords of Paisley, Scotland label, a beautifully patinated metal thimble and two large rectangular mother-of-pearl buckles.
The buckles are particularly lovely, with the softly translucent, pearly finish typical of natural shell and a simple Art Deco-era shape. They were likely intended for a dress, lingerie or other fine garment. Together with the old threads and thimble, the collection has a gentle 1930s–50s sewing-box feel.
A lovely group for a collector of old haberdashery or for incorporating into slow stitching and textile projects.
