A charming collection of vintage French sewing notions in an old friand tin that we think would make a perfect pincushion!
Nestled inside are gorgeous little pieces of French mercerie history that we have found during our adventures in the French markets.
The set includes four small reels of beautifully coloured sewing thread in shades of grey, turquoise and blue, a card of ten pale blue four-hole buttons, and an original card of narrow woven mending tape complete with needle. The tape card is marked “La Soie – Paris” and aiguille à bout rond pour enfilage de colliers — indicating the blunt-ended needle was intended for threading the tape or cord through casings.
Likely dating from around the 1930s–60s, these humble sewing-room necessities have lovely original packaging and signs of age and use. A sweet collection for anyone who loves old French haberdashery, visible mending and textile ephemera.
