Included are two old reels of sewing thread in soft sage green and ivory, a traditional metal thimble, and a particularly lovely pair of square diamanté buckles, sparkling with clear paste stones.
Also included is an original card of deep green Alson D.M.C. darning yarn, marked “à repriser – en fibre synthétique” and bearing the name Dollfus-Mieg & Cie, Mulhouse–Belfort–Paris. This is a lovely piece of French DMC haberdashery ephemera and gives the collection a strong French textile connection.
The combination of utilitarian mending materials and glamorous little buckles is especially appealing—a glimpse into the days when clothes were both repaired and refashioned rather than discarded. We would date the group broadly to the 1930s–60s.
