Antique Embroidered Net Lace Trim
An exquisite piece of antique cream embroidered net lace measuring 80cm, probably dating from the late 19th to early 20th century.
This piece is one continuous circular loop.
A very fine net ground is densely decorated with scrolling floral motifs, including distinctive raised coiled or corded flowers that give the lace a beautiful three-dimensional quality. The softly scalloped edge is outlined with fine corded embroidery.
The reverse shows remnants of pale blue stitching or binding, suggesting the lace was once removed from a garment or decorative textile. Most likely cotton embroidery on machine-made net, with the elaborate raised work giving it the appearance of more costly handmade lace. Gentle discolouration and traces of its original mounting are consistent with age.
