Vintage French Haberdashery Collection – Press Studs, Hooks & Eyes
A wonderful little assortment of original French dressmaking notions, gathered together as found.
The collection includes several cards and loose examples of metal press studs (boutons pression), together with tiny hooks and eyes used for fastening dresses, lingerie and other garments.
Particularly lovely are the original printed cards, including Le Fil – Fabrication Française – Inoxydable, Chantecler, La Mariposa, and the pink GJ&F “L’Invisible” Paris card.
There is a mixture of vintag silvery and darker oxidised metal fasteners, along with a few clear examples. The surviving typography, colours and slightly worn cards give the group lots of authentic old French mercerie character.
Date: c.1930s–1950s, with some pieces possibly a little earlier or later. The graphic design and packaging are particularly evocative of the interwar to immediate post-war period.
Condition: Vintage and mixed, as found. Some cards are incomplete and show staining, creasing, torn edges and general age wear.
