This is a beautiful length of vintage French silk ribbon, probably dating from c. 1920–1940. Although simple in appearance, it is a high-quality haberdashery item that would originally have been sold by the metre in a mercerie (haberdashery shop).

The ribbon is woven with a soft satin sheen. It is wound around its original shop card.

The ribbon measures approximately 20–25 mm wide.

Its luxurious finish suggests it was intended for fine dressmaking rather than gift wrapping.

The fine diagonal weave and soft sheen are consistent with high-quality French ribbon production.

During the 1920s and 1930s, French manufacturers increasingly blended rayon with silk to produce ribbons that retained the lustre of silk while being more affordable. Pure silk examples were generally reserved for couture houses and luxury millinery.
