These two pieces are both attractive vintage French furnishing fabrics, but they come from different periods and represent different textile traditions.

WOVEN JACQUARD FURNISHING FABRIC

This piece probably dates from the 1930s-1940s to 1960s. The design is created by coloured warp and weft threads, giving it a softly textured, tapestry-like appearance.

The design features stylised flowers, foliage and scrolling stems in muted sage green, dusty blue, rose, terracotta and ochre on a warm beige ground. This restrained palette was characteristic of post-war French interiors, particularly in provincial homes.

It was likely used for upholstery, bed valances and decorative wall panels.

MAUVE FLORAL COTTON

This is a charming printed cotton furnishing fabric, probably dating from the 1950s or early 1960s. Several features point to this period:

 a soft mauve background

diagonal woven twill texture beneath the print

delicate floral bouquets tied into trailing garlands

cheerful colours of pink, yellow, cream and green
