These are two very different French textiles, but both are characteristic of the kinds of beautiful domestic and decorative fabrics we often find in French brocantes and flea markets.
• The cream lace is a Cluny-style bobbin lace. Based on the evenness of the motifs and the consistent thread size, we approximate that it dates from approximately 1900–1935.
It was also sold by the metre through merceries (haberdashers), allowing women to embellish household linens at home.
• This is a delightful mid-century French furnishing cotton, dating from the 1940s - 1950s . These soft, slightly faded colours were very fashionable in provincial French interiors.
• Please see pics for measurements.
