This listing is part of the collection we found during our March 2025 visit to Bruges.
These two motifs handmade bobbin lace has been salvaged from a garment.
It is in excellent condition despite its age.
Measures 200 x 3.5cm
There are 4 predominant varieties from different regions:
Brussels specialised in pillow-lace with cut thread.
Antwerp was renowned for its pillow-lace with continuing thread.
Bruges became famous for its "Binche lace" especially the "point de fée" (fairy lace).
East Flanders the lace production developed as a needle technique, which was mostly used for very fine cloth and became known as "Brussels lace".
