This spool is an interesting reminder of that less familiar part of the company’s history.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe thread itself is a dark charcoal or black colour.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003e“Linen Substitute” was a trade description widely used from the 1920s through the 1950s for a strong thread designed to replace expensive imported linen thread.
